Box Office Report

A disasterous movie weekend turns into a disasterous movie box office report.

No movie crossed the $11 million mark over this weekend - surprisingly, Babylon A.D. only managed to collect a shameful $9 million after it was expected to make at least three times that amount - the film grossed in that low amount most probably due to the fact that the film received hideous reviews from not only the director, but from critics everywhere. This one debuted at #2. Tropic Thunder remained at #1, while The Dark Knight reclaimed the #3 spot, grossing in another $8 million, its domestic total is currently a record-breaking $502 million - just $98 million away from Titanic's total! The film's worldwide gross stands at $883 million.

Other debuts this weekend include Disaster Movie which debuted at #7, making in an extremely dissapointing $6 million - hopefully this is the end of these damn parodies!

College came in at #15 making $2 million - this is one of the lowest debuts in box office history! On to better news though, with $217 million grossed, Wall-E has leapfrogged 1992's Aladdin as the sixth highest-grosing G Rated movie of all-time! Impressive stuff.

Weekend Box Office Report

Despite good promotion, The House Bunny wasn't able to debut at #1 on the Box Office. At #1 we find Tropic Thunder, once again. The comedy flick grossed in another $16.1 million over the weekend, the film's total currently stands at $65 million. Now, The House Bunny came in at #2, not too far away from #1 though, making 15.1 million dollars on its opening weekend. Not quite as much as it was expected, but more that half of the film's budget, which is good. The Dark Knight falls to #4 and the movie's total stands at an incredible 489 million dollars. Amazing. Box Office Report: New #1 and Summer's Biggest

We've finally got a new #1 this weekend. Tropic Thunder has topped the Box Office chart this weekend bringing in $26 million. Enough to send The Dark Knight packing to #2. This movie, however, is still grossing a lot more money that new movies like the new animated Star Wars flick. The Dark Knight pulled in $16 million to bring its amazing grand total to 471 million dollars - that's more than enough to make The Dark Knight the second highest-grossing film of all time in the US only behind Titanic which stands at 600 million dollars.

Now, instead of talking about the other insignificant debuts this weekend, let's do a short recap of this summer's huge movie hits and how much they've made. Firt up, Iron Man which managed to collect $317 million in 16 weeks - the DVD for this movie comes out September 30th. Can't wait to buy that. Next, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, flick that managed to make a great $315 million. Huge stuff. Will Smith's Hancock collected 225 million dollars and Disney Pixar's Wall-E has made $214 million so far. Finally, Dreamwork's Kung Fu Panda grossed in $211 million.

Huge summer hits, big numbers, great movies. For a full report, click here.

Tropic Thunder Not Making What Was Expected

According to early reports, the big budget film Tropic Thunder won't make back what it cost to make in its first full weekend out. Thunder opened this Wednesday to $7.5 million, that's just 40% of what Pineapple Express made in its Wednesday debut last week.

Tropic Thunder, despite starring Ben Stiller and Jack Black, is expected to pull in $41 million tops this weekend, well below expectations. Well... the #1 movie remains The Dark Knight - impressive.
