Jessica Simpson Definitely Going Country

Believe it: Jessica Simpson has decamped to Nashville to begin work on her debut country album, due sometime in 2008 via Columbia Nashville.

Simpson declined to name songwriting collaborators, but tells Billboard.com she will most definitely be involved in the creative process.
"Writing is a release for me," she says. "It's a way for me to tell my story. That's not to say I wouldn't record a song that I didn't write. It's just that it has been a while since I have opened the book."

But why country, and why now?
"I am a country girl," she says. "I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right."

"I think there is a strength in female country artists," Simpson adds, citing Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as some of her inspirations.

Asked what has surprised her most since starting the follow-up to 2006's "A Public Affair," Simpson says,
"Nashville is a very warm city. The people are friendly and kind. There is a sense of community, which thrives on music. There is no animosity ... only respect for one another's talent."

It's unclear if Simpson will hit the road in support of the as-yet-untitled country project, but she says, "Since the record is in the beginning stages, there hasn't been much talk about a tour just yet."

Oooh, I can't wait!

Josh Groban and Mary J. Blige Top Billboard Chart

Josh Groban's "Noel" (143/Reprise) becomes the first Christmas album to top The Billboard 200 for five straight weeks, after moving 757,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Groban's total, which was up 13% from last week, helped hold off hefty competition from Mary J. Blige's "Growing Pains" (Geffen), the only debut to crack the top 10 this week. The R&B star's ninth album landed at No. 2 and shifted 629,000 copies.

Despite a whopping 62% sales spike, Alicia Keys' "As I Am" (J) slips 2-3 in its sixth week on the chart, selling 474,000. The Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" (Eagles Recording Co.) also slides down one spot to No. 4 with 313,000 (+30%). Moving 260,000 copies, Miley Cyrus' Disney double-disc set "Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus" jumps 7-5 thanks to a 46% sales increase from the previous week.

The "Now 26" multi-label hits compilation slides 4-6, pulling in 235,000 copies (+22%) in its sixth week of release. Arista Nashville artist Carrie Underwood jumps two slots to No. 7 with "Carnival Ride," on a 57% increase to 216,000. Big Machine artist Taylor Swift remained at No. 8 with her self-titled debut, selling 187,000 (+35%).

Disney's "High School Musical 2" fell 6-9 on 185,000 copies sold (+4%) and Jive artist Chris Brown rounded out the top 10 after a 65% leap to 176,000 for "Exclusive."

Other debuts include Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street which comes in at #5 taking in a dissapointing $9 millions, while P.S. I Love You came in at #6 with just 6 million made. t.A.T.u on Maxim Magazine - Russia

When did these two ladies get so damn hot? Yes, pregnant and all, Yulia looks mighty sexy. The once-"lesbian" duo will appear on the new issue of Maxim Russia. I can't wait to see more of this shoot. Onto music news, t.A.T.u are working on their third English studio album, wich they hope to be as successful as their two previous albums. They have already started promotion for the russian version of the album titled Upravleniye Otbrosami in Europe. We can expect the English version to be titled Waste Management and be released in late 2008. The lead single is called "Beliy Plashchik", which translates into "White Robe". The music video for the single was shot during October 6th and 7th at the Hyperion Waste Treatment Plant in Los Angeles, California. It was directed by James Cox (and his team including producer Billy Parks, and cameraman Joe Labisi), who had previously directed their videos for "Lyudi Invalidy" and "All About Us". The video follows the theme of the album and song, centering around a parallel of Nazism during the Holocaust in the 21st century. However, on the group's website, they posted a disclaimer stating: "Similarities to uniforms of any times and peoples are accidental and historically invalid." Interesting enough, watch the music video below. Keep your eyes open for an extreme ending. Check it out.

Ashlee Simpson Changes Third Album's Title

For a while now, Ashlee Simpson's third studio album was known to be titled, Color Outside The Lines. However, in a recent exclusive interview with MTV News, the singer revealed that the final title would be Bittersweet World. Ashlee said, "I had been thinking about it, but then I guess today I just decided that I'm gonna call my album Bittersweet World," she said. "It's the title of one of the songs on my record. I was contemplating Color Outside the Lines for a while, but Bittersweet World is the one I feel. ... It's kind of how I feel about the world right now."

Bittersweet is tentatively scheduled to hit stores in March, and when fans finally get a listen, Simpson said they'll be hearing something that's equal parts
"cheeky, quirky and sweet," an album that reflects her life in the spotlight ("Out Of My Head" is about "having so many voices in your head and everybody's opinions") and her growth as a person. And it sounds like it was recorded in 1985.

"It's definitely influenced by '80s music," she said. "I wanted to do music with beats, I wanted to step outside the box. It's where I am in my life. There's parts of the record that are '80s-influenced, because that's just kind of where I'm at right now. I'm more laid-back, and I want to dance around, and I kind of laugh at things a lot, so you'll hear that on the record."

Interesting.
