Throwback Friday: Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris"
Released in 1998, "Iris" became one of the biggest hits for the alternative rock band Goo Goo Dolls. It is considered by many as not only the band's best-known single; but also one of the best songs released in the 90s.
"Iris" peaked at #1 in Australia and Canada. It also hit #1 in US airplay and #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other peaks around the world include #9 in Norway, #16 in New Zealand and #26 in the UK.

Throwback Friday: Live- "Lightning Crashes"
1995 it is! "Lightning Crashes" was released as the third single from Live's 1994 album Throwing Copper. While it wasn't officially released as a commercially purchasable single in the United States, the song received enough radio airplay to peak at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay music chart. The song also topped the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart for 10 weeks and the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart for 9 weeks.

Throwback Friday: The Wreckers- "Leave the Pieces"
I'm in a Michelle Branch kind of mood lately. "Leave The Pieces" was released as the debut single from country duo The Wreckers formed by Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp. The song topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for several weeks and made it to #34 on the Hot 100.
This single was very well received by critics and it earned the duo a large amount of award nominations, including one for Best Country Duo Vocal Performance at the 2007 Grammy Awards.
Their album Stand Still, Look Pretty released on May of 2006 went on to sell nearly a million copies in the US, mostly on the success of this song alone.

Throwback Friday: Michelle Branch- "Everywhere"
Hard to believe this song was released ten years ago! "Everywhere" was the debut single from Michelle Branch, released in July of 2001. The song peaked at #1 in Indonesia and #2 in New Zealand, unfortunately it wasn't that big of a hit everywhere else, in the US the song peaked at #12 while it only reached #18 in the UK and #19 in Australia. The song was not a major chart hit, but I'm sure most of you have heard and like this song. It was criminally overlooked.
"Everywhere" was awarded with the Viewer's Choice moon man at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. Michelle's album The Spirit Room only peaked at #28 on the Billboard 200 but it ended up selling over a million copies and getting certified Platinum in the end.

Throwback Friday: Modest Mouse- "Float On"
We're going back to 2004 when Modest Mouse released their single "Float On." Why? because Lupe Fiasco has sampled this song on his new single "The Show Goes On" and I don't think it does the original any justice as to how good it actually is.
"Float On" only peaked at #68 on the Hot 100 chart, but it did reach #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart. Their album Good News For People Who Love Bad News was certified Platinum for sells of over a million copies.

"Underneath It All" won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group in 2003.

Throwback Friday: Brad Paisley Feat. Alison Krauss- "Whiskey Lullaby"
This could easily be one of the saddest songs you'll ever hear. "Whiskey Lullaby" was released in 2003 as Brad Paisley's third single from his album Mud on the Tires. The single reached #3 on the Country charts and #41 on the Billboard Hot 100. Alison Krauss, who is featured on the single, hasn't reached the Top 10 of the Country charts after this single.

Throwback Friday: Avril Lavigne- "I'm With You"
I don't think there's a lot of people out there who don't know the lyrics to this song. Avril Lavigne released "I'm With You" in 2003 as the third single off her debut album Let Go. The song is still one of her most successful, having peaked at #4 in the US, #5 in Italy, Ireland and New Zealand, #7 in the UK and #9 in the Netherlands and Belgium.
"I'm With You" was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2004 Grammy Awards.

It peaked at #2 in England and at #8 on the US Hot 100, giving the group their first and only American Top 10. In addition, it reached #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks an unprecedented ten weeks.

Throwback Friday: Dixie Chicks- "Not Ready to Make Nice"
The Dixie Chicks had one of the strongest comebacks in music history with "Not Ready to Make Nice" after controversy erupted over them in 2003 following a critical comment vocalist Natalie Maines made of the American President George W. Bush while performing in a concert in London. The song, which was written by all three band members, is a statement of how they feel over the controversy, the death threats they received, banning of their songs from country music radio stations, and freedom of speech.
"Not Ready to Make Nice" won Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Performance by a Group at the 2007 Grammy Awards. It also reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, but only #36 on Billboard's country chart.
Taking the Long Way won Album of the Year at the 2007 Grammy Awards and sold nearly 3 million copies in the United States.

Throwback Friday: 3 Doors Down- "Kryptonite"
We're going back to the year 2000 with this one. "Kryptonite" was the first single released from 3 Doors Down's album The Better Life, which was certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA, mainly thanks to the popularity of this single. Aside from spending eleven consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Alternative chart, the song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, #8 in Australia and #13 in New Zealand. It also reached #1 on Canada's and the UK's Rock Charts.

Throwback Friday: Gwen Stefani- "4 in the Morning"
Every Friday I will be posting an old music video which I may have gotten into again during the week. Today, we're dusting off Gwen Stefani's fourth single from her album The Sweet Escape. The song is "4 in the Morning", possibly one of my favorite Gwen songs and sadly one of her most underrated. It reached the Top 10 only in Australia, Finland and New Zealand. Other peaks around the world include #12 in Ireland, #14 in Holland, #17 in Italy and Canada, and #18 in Germany.
