Scotty McCreery To Debut at Number One on Billboard

Scotty McCreery’s debut album, Clear as Day, will debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart with estimated sales between 150-175k. The only previous Idol winners who can make that claim are first and second-season champs Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard, whose debut albums Thankful and Soulful went straight to #1 in 2003. However, although it will debut at number one, it will be the fourth-lowest opening week sales for a previous Idol winner's debut album, only ahead of Jordin Sparks' self-titled debut (119k) Kris Allen's self-titled debut (80k) and Lee DeWyze's Live It Up (39k).

Here's a look at what previous Idol debut sales looked like:

1. Ruben Studdard - Soulful (416,000) #1

2. Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts (315,000) #2
3. Taylor Hicks - Taylor Hicks (298,000) #2
4. Kelly Clarkson - Thankful (297,000) #1
5. David Cook - David Cook (280,000) #3
6. Fantasia Barrino - Free Yourself (240,000) #8
7. Scotty McCreery - Clear As Day (150-175,000) #1
8. Jordin Sparks - Jordin Sparks (119,000) #10
9. Kris Allen - Kris Allen (80,000) #11
10. Lee DeWyze - Live It Up (39,000) #19

That's three Idol music video premieres. Where's Hailey's? Check out the premiere for Scotty McCreery's "I Love You This Big." I think this is the first season to have so many music videos from contestants this early on.

On the Set: Scotty McCreery- "I Love You This Big"

I can't remember when the last time a music video was made for an American Idol winner's single. Impressive! And not hard to see why, Scotty McCreery's "I Love You This Big" has become a top twenty country radio hit already. Congrats to him!

The other performances consist of Carrie Underwood picking a song for Lauren Alaina and George Strait will choose for Scotty McCreery. No word on what those songs are. A third song will be a favorite performance chosen by Lauren and Scotty.
