Out in Theaters Now!

Inglorious Basterds is set in an alternate history of the Second World War in which the entire top leadership of Nazi Germany, namely Hitler, Goering, Goebbels and Bormann attend a film premiere in Paris celebrating the exploits of a German sniper who had managed to kill 250 American soldiers in Italy. The timeframe of the film is set in early June 1944, after the D-Day landings but before the liberation of Paris.

The film tracks the separate attempts to kill Hitler by two disparate forces, one being the "Basterds", a motley crew of Jewish American soldiers out for revenge against the Nazis. The Basterds have a modus operandi whereby each soldier must cut off the scalp of a dead Nazi soldier. The Basterds allow one German soldier to survive in order to spread the news of the terror of their attacks. However, the Basterds carve a swastika into the forehead of that German. The other force concerns Shosanna, the only Jewish survivor of an attack led by the "Jew Hunter" that had killed all her family. The Basterds and Shosanna remain unaware of each other throughout the film.

Marley & Me Tops Five Debuts at the Box Office

That's right, there were a total of five movie debuts this long holiday weekend at the Box Office and the family flick Marley & Me came out at #1 with a wide margin. Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson are celebrating the number one film in America which made an amazing total of $51 million! Incredible.

Following the doggy film at #2, we find Brad Pitt in the award-nominated movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which grossed in a very good $39 million over the long holiday weekend which started last Thursday and ended today.

Adam Sandler comes in very close at #3 in Bedtime Stories, the Walt Disney film grossed a great $38 million. Now, the last debut inside the Top 5 is Valkyrie starring Tom Cruise in Nazi Germany. The movie, which has been negatively rated by critics, managed to collect $30 million this weekend. Pretty good.

To finish up this report, I did mention five debuts in the Box Office this weekend, unfortunately, the lowest debut goes to the film Spirit, which came in at #9 making only $10 million. Not good, sadly.

Now In Theaters!

Looks like people seriously love a good puppy film! Marley & Me starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston made an estimated $14.6 million on it opening day, ranking #1 at the box office, and in the process became the biggest Christmas Day opener of all time! Congrats to them. Another film making good cash is Brad Pitt's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which is set in New Orleans, Louisiana from the end of World War I on November 11, 1918 all the way to 2005. It follows the life of Benjamin Button, who is born with the appearance and physical limitations of a man who is 87 years old. Abandoned in a nursing home by his father, Thomas Button, Benjamin begins aging backward on the outside of his body. While in the home, he meets Daisy (Cate Blanchett), a young aspiring ballerina. As the film progresses, the two fall in love, while struggling to deal with the issue of one growing younger while the other grows older. Interesting enough. Great movies to watch this weekend!
