Carrie Underwood Making Movie Debut?

Rumors have been swirling lately about Carrie Underwood appearing in an upcoming theatrical movie, Soul Surfer, based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton and her courageous determination to preserve her dreams of surfing after a terrible shark attack. The movie begins production very soon in Hawaii and has a planned release sometime late this year; around October. So far, some big names have been cast including: Denis Quaid, Hellen Hunt, and child actress Anna Sophia Robb, who will play the lead role as Bethany.

So far, this rumor seems pretty legit, as a actor appearing in the movie, Kevin Sorbo, released the info of Carrie being cast on Twitter. Although, no official confirmation has been announced about Carrie in the movie, the information doesn’t seem to be completely unreliable right now. Here is some further information on the movie:

Sony Entertainment’s Soul Surfer is in the midst of pre production on Oahu’s North Shore – based at the Turtle Bay Resort – with filming slated to begin Jan. 25. The bio pic about Kauai professional surfer Bethany Hamilton who had her left arm bitten off by a tiger shark while surfing at Hanalei Bay stars AnnaSophia Robb. Hamilton gave Robb surfing instructions on Kauai’s north shore over the holidays. AnnaSophia Robb is set to take the lead in the upcoming Soul Surfer.

Based on the courageous events of Bethany Hamilton’s attack, the film will start production at the end of the month, according to Bethany and The Herald Sun. Bethany says of meeting AnnaSophia, “She’s super cool. A great girl. We’ve met in Hawaii and hung out. They wanted a one-armed person doing it [the shark attack scenes] and that’s not easy to find.”

Bethany was surfing with a friend when she was 13 when a tiger shark ripped her arm off just below her shoulder. Three weeks later, Bethany was back on her board at her home break at Kauai, Hawaii. Now, she’s a pro-surfer who placed second at the Billabong tournament last year.
