Dixie Chicks- "Not Ready To Make Nice" : Video of the Week

"Not Ready To Make Nice" was the first (and very controversial) single from the Dixie Chicks' seventh studio album Taking The Long Way, which was released in 2006. The song, was written by all three band members (Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire) is a statement of how they feel over the controversy of Natalie's negative comment of President George W. Bush in 2003, the banning of their songs from country music radio stations, the death threats they received, and freedom of speech. The single was ignored by country radio but praised by their fans which made the single reach #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 making it their highest-charting single to date. Critics also praised the song, who at one point said that this song was extremely well written and that "They're "Not Ready to Make Nice" with the yahoos who threatened their lives over an offhanded comment. So give the Chicks credit for sticking to their guns, and give them more for getting on with life." (USA Today). The song also went on to win three Grammy Awards including Song of the Year and Record of the Year in 2007. I personally think that the song is incredible and I'm glad they stuck to what they said and never regret doing so. Still to date, country radio refuse to play their songs and although Taking The Long Way was successfully certified Double Platinum, it became the band's lowest-selling album ever. Shame. Enjoy the new Video of the Week.
