Will Smith's streak of debuts at #1 has come to an end thanks to Jim Carrey and his comedy flick Yes Man, which has made its debut at #1 on the box office making a good $18 million over the weekend. Not too bad. Will Smith settles for #2 with his newest film Seven Pounds which collected $14 million. Finally, for a #3 debut, we have the family cartoon The Tale of Desperaux, making $10 million over the weekend. It was a slow weekend for movies overall. For a full chart, click here.

Hitting the Big Screen Today!
Will Smith's last seven films have all made a debut at #1 on the box office, and he hopes to keep that momentum going with his new movie Seven Pounds. Smith plays the role of an IRS agent with a fateful secret who embarks on an extraordinary journey of redemption by forever changing the lives of seven strangers. Sounds interesting, but if you're not into drama films or want to take the younger ones to the movies this weekend, then the perfect choice will be the cartoon The Tale of Desperaux featuring the voices of Matthew Broderick and Emma Watson. The film is a modern fairy tale of several unlikely heroes: Despereaux, a brave mouse banished to the dungeon for speaking with a human; Roscuro, a good-hearted rat who loves light and soup, but is exiled to darkness; Pea, a princess in a gloomy castle who is prisoner to her father's grief; and Mig, a servant girl who longs to be a princess, but is forced to serve the jailer. Sounds like a nice film. It's going to be a close race for #1! Let's see who pulls out on top.

Box Office Report: Hancock is #1
Will Smith has made his way to the number one spot in the box office this past week (since its release on Tuesday) with his newest film Hancock which grossed in a great $107 million - despite bad reviews from critics ($66 million over the weekend). Close behind at #2 we find one of the best films of the year, WALL-E. The Pixar film managed to bring in another $33 million to its total of $127 million so far - which is more that impressive in just two weeks. It was a good fourth of July weekend at the box office overall To check out a full report, click here.

Out Today on the Big Screen: Hancock
Opening today in theatres on the UK and the US is another of this summer's most anticipated films - Hancock. This film revolves around Will Smith who portrays an alcoholic superhero named "Hancock" who is despised by the public. When he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), the latter helps rehabilitate Hancock. He later begins to develop feelings for Ray's wife Mary (Charlize Theron). The film has received average reviews, but I still want to check this one out. The trailer looks too promising not to. Check it out below.
