Serial killer series Dexter, starring Michael C. Hall, returned last night on Showtime to big ratings.In fact, according to the cable channel, the fifth-season debut - which drew 2.3 million total viewers over two airings at 9 and 11 p.m. - marked the series' highest-rated premiere ever and the best season premiere for a Showtime original series in 15 years.
The story line picked up right where it left off in last season's finale, with Dexter returning home to discover wife Rita's bloody corpse in the bathtub.
