The DownFall of American Idol Contestants

And it appears as if the interest on American Idol contestants has dropped severely lately. Over the past few months, fellow Idol winners and runner-ups have gotten dropped by their record labels due to poor album and singles sales. Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard was dropped by his record label, J, after releasing a series of unsuccessful singles and albums. The "Velvet Bear" failed to score a top 5 single or album since his debut in 2003. Sad. Another dropped Idol alum was season 5 winner, Taylor Hicks who was dropped by his record label, Arista. The failed winner failed to impress and his debut album was a commercial failure with no full singles released. Finally, Katharine McPhee was just dropped by RCA, her record label. McPhee's debut album failed to be certified and her released singles failed to crack the Top 20 in the U.S. Who's next? Fantasia? Clay Aiken? Perhaps newbie Blake Lewis? Simon Cowell, Simon Fuller and Clive Davis must not be happy these days.
At all this, I wonder if we've gotten all we ever wanted from American Idol... it seems that all interest was lost on other contestants after the mega success of Grammy-winners and multi-platinum recording artists Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood and the rise of Daughtry and his widely successful debut album. The new season of American Idol starts later this month... we'll see what's in store this time around.
