Michelle Obama on iCarly: Sneak Peek

The First Lady is making a cameo on the show to bring awareness to Joining Forces, an initiative that supports and honors U.S. military families.

In an episode titled, “iMeet the First Lady,” Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) is surprised by her friends with a live feed to her father during an iCarly webcast (her dad is an Air Force colonel who is serving overseas). After Mrs. Obama sees the webcast, she surprises Carly for being such a supportive daughter to a father who is serving his country.

First Lady Michelle Obama makes a special appearance on Nickelodeon’s hit television series “iCarly” during a taping in Hollywood June 13, 2011. Obama appeared on the series to bring awareness to Joining Forces, an initiative that supports and honors U.S. military families.

The First Lady played herself in the episode in which Carly Shay, played by Miranda Cosgrove, is upset because her Air Force colonel father is not at home on her birthday. Eventually, the First Lady saves the day, telling Carly how she is serving her country through her father, and pulling some strings so the two can chat online.

"The storyline is very sweet," Michelle said in a speech at the Writers Guild Theater. "Carly is a military kid, and that's always been a part of the script -- that's been a part of their situation. Her father has been deployed ... it's just a way for us to recognize her challenges as well as how her friends are stepping up to support her.”
