Adele Breaks Several Billboard Records Thanks to Grammys

A Grammy Awards afterglow likewise shines on Adele, whose three former Hot 100 No. 1s bullet in the top 10: "Set Fire to the Rain" holds at No. 2 (and No. 1 on Radio Songs for a second week; 143 million, up 4%); "Rolling in the Deep," the record and song of the year which Adele performed at the Grammys, charges back 17-5 (in its 59th chart week; 271,000, up 115%); and, "Someone Like You" jumps 11-7.

With the gains, Adele makes history as the first female ever to place three titles in the Hot 100's top 10 concurrently as a lead artist. Only one other woman had ever claimed a 30% share of the top 10: Ashanti, who charted a trio of tracks in the top tier the weeks of March 30 and April 6 in 2002. She sported featured artist billing, however, on two of those entries.

Also, Adele's "21" spends a 21st nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling 730,000 (up 207%) in the week after the Feb. 12 Grammy Awards.

The diva also moves up five slots to No. 4 on the tally with her first album, "19," which sold 87,000 last week (up 144%).

Adele's Fourth Single Off 21 Will Be...

"Rumour Has It"! No surprise here, I think we all expected it. Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic frontman and producer of this song, has confirmed that it will indeed be released as the album's fourth single.

I see this hitting number one with ease. She's coming after Katy Perry's five number ones!

Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" Rises to Number One on Billboard And Breaks Yet Another Record

"Set Fire to the Rain" is Adele's third number one, joining "Rolling in the Deep" (which spent seven weeks on top last year) and "Someone Like You" (five total weeks in 2011). Of course, 21 is also the number one album in the country this week, which means that Adele rules both charts simultaneously. That's not necessarily a remarkable feat, as plenty of artists have lorded over both charts simultaneously, and 10 artists have even done it with two songs (most recently, Usher pulled it off with the Confessions singles "Yeah!" and "Burn" back in 2004). But in an interesting bit of trivia, Adele is now the only artist in history to rule both charts with three different singles from the same album. Scoring three number ones is tricky business, but scoring those hit singles while still keeping your album sales robust is more or less impossible. What's more impressive is that Adele continues to climb these charts and break these records without much promotion, as she has only recently emerged from a brief sabbatical she took to recover from vocal cord surgery.

Almost a year after its release last February, pop songbird Adele’s 21 is showing no signs of letting up. In its 48th week on the albums chart, the multi-Grammy nominee’s sophomore effort spends its 17th week at #1, topping Titanic and tying Billy Ray Cyrus’ Some Gave All back in 1992. The all-time record for weeks at #1 is held by the West Side Story soundtrack, which spent a total of 54 from 1962-63, followed by Michael Jackson’s Thriller, with 37 weeks on top. The 96k in sales this week sends 21’s total in the U.S. past 6.1 million.

It’s been 47 weeks since Adele’s sophomore XL/Columbia album, 21, first entered the charts. Now, after 16 weeks at #1 and 6 million sold in the U.S. alone, the release continues to sit astride the HITS Top 50, with another 107k, more than twice the total of its nearest challenger, sixstepsrecords/Sparrow/EMI Christian cult act David Crowder Band’s Give Us Rest…, which debuts at #2 with 42k. - HitsDailyDouble

21 has also sold over 16 million copies worldwide, all in just a year of release.

Adele Changed Third Single To "Set Fire to the Rain"

Believe it or not, though it’s been out for nearly a whole year now, and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, there’s still only been two official singles released off Adele’s 21. Of course, those two singles were “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You,” which have sold a combined 7 million copies in the US and spent a combined 12 weeks on top the Hot 100, so you can forgive the slow roll-out some, but now at long last we have a third release from that album: “Set Fire to the Rain.” Billboard reports that while Columbia records was originally planning on pushing “Rumour Has It” as the third single, the label’s research “found more programmer preference for ‘Set Fire to the Rain’.”

I'm glad they changed it, I've been waiting for this song to be released for too long.

Adele is on the cover of Cosmopolitan’s December 2011 issue.

The 23-year-old English singer/songwriter chatted about who her favorite singers of all time are.

“My favorite singers are Etta James and Aretha Franklin. If you were to look up the word singer in the dictionary you’d see their names. Not mine,” she dished.

Adele recently had to cancel her U.S. tour because of issues with her throat - she’ll undergo surgery but is expected to make a full recovery.

Her album, 21 reached a "titanic" milestone this week, as it enjoys its 13th week atop the Billboard 200 list. It's the first album to spend that many weeks at number one since the soundtrack for the 1998 motion picture "Titanic." Billboard.com reports that "21" is this year's biggest selling album at over 4 million copies sold.

Everyone thought they were going with "Set Fire To the Rain" but they just threw us a curve ball. Adele will be releasing the song "Rumour Has It" as the third single from her album 21 in the United States. I'm happy with this choice! As long as "Fire" gets released next.

21 has sold over 4 million copies in the U.S. and over 11 million world wide.

Adele's "21" Sells Over 10 Million Copies In Less Than A Year

Since its release earlier this year, Adele’s ‘21′ has gone onto become one of the most consistent selling records of all time, averaging with sales of around 200,000 units across the globe each week.

Now she has scored a feat that even her most talented of competitors have tried and failed to achieve.

For as of this Global Chart week, her sophomore album has now sold more than 10 million copies despite being less than a year old.

With 276,000 units sold around the world this week, the LP has now sold 10.15 million units making it the fastest selling album since 2004 and makes one of the highest selling artists of all time.

Beating the likes of Lady GaGa and Beyonce to see a single album shift so many copies within such a short space of time, the album is also the first LP since 1993 to spend more than 30 weeks in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200.

Adele Rockets to Number One on the Billboard Hot 100

Following an acclaimed performance of the song on the MTV Video Music Awards Aug. 28, Adele's stark ballad "Someone Like You" bounds to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, vaulting 19-1 with dual Digital and Airplay Gainer honors.

The honors continue to pour in for Adele, as "Someone Like You" is her second Hot 100 No. 1, after "Rolling in the Deep" spent seven weeks at the summit beginning in May.

"Rolling in the Deep," which won Adele three trophies at the VMAs, and "Someone Like You" appear on the singer/songwriter's sophomore album "21," which, with 3.3 million copies sold in the U.S. since its February release, ranks as 2011's top-selling set.
