American Idol Top 7 [What They Performed]

Week's Theme:
Songs from the 21st Century

Performances:
Scotty McCreery- "Swinging"
James Durbin- "Uprising"
Haley Reinhart- "Rolling in the Deep"
Jacob Lusk- "Dance with My Father"
Casey Abrams- "Harder to Breathe"
Stefano Langone- "Closer"
Lauren Alaina- "Born to Fly"

The Best Damn Blog thinks:
Holy crap! The judges finally told Scotty what I've thought of him every week since the beginning! Boring and safe. Thought I'd never see the day. But anyway, the bottom 3 tomorrow night I think is easy: 1.) Haley Reinhart, she had three strong weeks but she's starting to go down again, her performance last week and this week weren't as strong. 2.) Stefano Langone, dude has more lives than a cat, and I think he will be safe another week thanks to Jacob. He should have gone home weeks ago though. 3.) Jacob Lusk, not his best performance... he may be in deep trouble. I can see him going home tomorrow night.

Here are the grades:

1. Haley- returns to my top spot this week after a one week dip. She sounded current, fun and really made that Adelle song her own. Props to her
2. Stefano- The guy is smooth and has a great recording voice. I just loved how he keeps growing each week, and coming out of his shell. Tonight not only were the vocals good, but his stage presence was phenomenal.
3. Casey- What a wild card this guy is. One week I like him, the next week I hate him, but I gotta say this was his best showing of the season.
4. Jacob- Slips a bit this week, basically on some technical issues, but once the song got going he poured his heart and soul into it. The guy is going to make a great record.
5. Scotty- Here's the deal for two weeks now I have dropped him down to 5. I had him 2 or 3 most of the season. I thought it was an odd song choice for the decade of music, considering its really an old John Anderson tune from the early 80's. I think he wimped out, by passing it off as a Lee ann Rimes song. He didn't add anything to the song, and he certainly didn't make John Anderson blush. The judges just confused the poor kid though, every week they praise him for staying to his country roots and if it ain't broke don't fix it, but tonight they reverse their criticism, a bit confusing.
6. Lauren- I gotta admit there were parts of this song that were really good, and others not so special. She didn't come close to hitting the notes Sara Evans can. Tonight we found out that she is suffering from stage fright and confidence issues. Like the judges said, and I agree if she would just let go and pour herself into the song, I think she can move up the list, but as of right now I just think she is two steps behind everyone else.
7. James- As impressed as I was last week with HEavy Metal which I ranked him at 3 I believe, I was really uninspired by tonights song. I thought it got a bit screechy at times. Maybe it was the song choice, who knows. I do gotta say what he sometimes lacks in vocals he makes up in stage presence. Again just because I put it in 7th doesn't mean it was bad. Right now it gets tougher and tougher to rank em. I do think as per usual he was over praised.

Bottom 3:

At this point the bottom 3 have little to do with who failed to deliver, or who wasn't good enough, it is basically now who seems to have built up the most popularity.

Stefano- a perennial bottom 3 person, which is too bad. As much as I like him, he has failed to capture America's attention. Funny somehow even though hes in the bottom 3 every week he always survives.
Haley- again this is no reflection of how good I think she is. I think vocally she is as good as it gets, and again tonight I thought she brought the whole package, unfortunately she is not going to appeal to the teen girls mashing on their cell phones.
Casey- You are probably asking yourself, ok look how high you rated him, and you have him here, what gives? I have a feeling he was just outside the bottom 3 last week, and based on who's left I think his steam is running out.

I think unfortunately America will see the Last of Stefano, which is too bad. Stefano leaves tomorrow.

yea haley was not bad, even though some notes were pitchy and not as good as the original, but it's extraordinary enough to take on adele's song

Are you kidding me? Haley was brilliant! She's definitely not in the bottom. Stefano is leaving this time. But you seriously thought Haley was down? She killed it this week!!
