Billboard Calls Bionic The Best Pop Album of 2010

NEW YORK (Billboard) - We may have love affairs with all kinds of gimmicky divas, but it takes Christina Aguilera to remind us that singing really matters.

That's not to say the pop star's latest release, "Bionic," is all about her voice, a muscular acrobat that's become more elegant with age. Combine it with the inventive work of a diverse cast of producers and you've got the best mainstream pop album of the year thus far. Sure, "Bionic" was made for a post-Lady Gaga world, where the comparisons are inevitable and the sales stakes are high. But from the fidgety intro of the dub-tastic opening title track (produced by Santigold collaborators John Hill & Switch) to punk-brat driving song "My Girls" (produced by Le Tigre, with a guest rap from Peaches) to Aguilera's gloriously restrained delivery on "All I Need" (Sia Furler co-produced the vocals), the 18-song set shows an artist confident enough to take direct cues from her tuned-in creative team. Because she's bold enough to do it her way, Aguilera maintains her reign.

I have to agree with Billboard. It's a great album indeed, and it's too bad that people don't get it. But hey, that's life! I just hope it will turn out just fine.

At first I thought the CD was mediocre at best...but upon listening to it constantly...I'm in love! Everyone needs to give this album a better listen, all her songs grow on you and you find little nuances every time you listen.

I agree. Like they said, she does it her way and she is not always going to please everyone. People who say that sucks, well too bad you can't enjoy a great album. I love it and once again, Christina is one of the few artists who actually still sings.

I can't find the original article. Could you please post a link to it? All I can find is an article from the Examiner. Did you find the Billboard article?

I love this album. I'm confused why it's flopping because I HATED the Back to Basics era with a passion and that did really well. I think the rise of the Gaga killed Christina.

This must be a joke. That pice of copycat formulaic crap is supoused to be the best album just because the label paid good desperate money to Billboard magazine? They must be really desperate (both)

I like the album but I wouldn't say it's the Best Pop album of 2010JUST YET!!!! The year isn't over yet.

Not accurate in the slightest.

completely accurate!! what other mainstream pop artist still sings songs with only acoustic instruments? (all i need, you lost me, i am) what other pop artist can still hold a note and sing with different textures in their voice? what other pop artist goes in different directions with each album???? she is a singer, an artist and a performer but the sad thing is people are so used to lipsynching and whatnot that they no longer can appreciate raw talent anymore!
i wish we could go back to the days when making pop music was also being a good singer at least! (isn't what being a singer is supposed to be???)
