When can we expect new songs?The new record is done. I can't tell you the name yet and all I can say is that the song titles you see on the internet are fake. I will release a single in April and the record in June. I will be ready to hit the road and I will stop in France. I always stop in France, my father was born here.
Was it the difference between promoting a single from a soundtrack and a single from a record?
Movie world is so different. For example, yesterday I did something called "press junket", it's a crazy thing. I did 70 interviews of few minutes. I have never done this before for my previous records. I did it for Over The Hedge, it was the same. I think it's fascinated to be interviewed by so many people in 5 hours. When it's about music, I go on tour first on every country to promote the new record, and then I go back for the tour. When it's about movie, the promo is in 1 ou 2 cities for the whole world.
Can I say that "Alice" reflects your new record?
No, this song is different from the others. You can add it to the atmosphere, but the others are not that dark.
But your records have always had dark songs and some softers ...
You are absolutely right, my records were like that, but not this one. Before it had a ballad song, a mid-tempo song and a "punky poppy rocky song" (laughs). This record is more homogeneous, the songs are more similars, the atmosphere doesn't change that much and I think it's cool. I like to think that people will hear this record when they are cooking. And I like to think that it will touched a mature audience. It's time for me to change a bit and go through what I am today.
This is what I want to write and what I feel.
Will we hear more piano?
Definitely. Most of my songs were written with the piano whereas before it was with the guitar.
You can hear a lof of piano, acoustic guitar, strings on this new record. But I will play all my favourite songs from all my records because it's important to play all the singles.
