Best Damn Blog's Review of the 2009 MTV VMAs

Ah, I don't know about anyone else but this is the first VMAs I have enjoyed from beginning to end in a VERY long time. I'd dare to say maybe since 2003 or 2004.

So to begin with, my take on what has everyone talking right now. Kanye West upstaging Taylor Swift.

Not only is he an arrogant cocky piece of shit, but now he's also disrespectful. Going up on stage, snatching Taylor's microphone away from her as she is giving her speech and saying Beyonce should have won instead was just unnecessary and rude. Taylor looked uncomfortable and that was just painful to watch. If he thought Beyonce would take that as a compliment, hell, he was wrong. I do admire Beyonce for giving Taylor Swift the stage to finish her speech once "Single Ladies" won Video of the Year. That showed major class, maybe Kanye can learn something from her. Damn, I hate that dude. I am glad he did not win any of his four nominations. He didn't deserve any of them. He did deserve all the boo-ing he got everytime his name was mentioned, for sure.

So now I must talk about Lady GaGa's awkward outfit choices. Yeah, it's no secret she's nuts when it comes to dressing herself. But today she just looked like a freak. She did not pull off any one of those outfits. I will say though that her performance of "Paparazzi" was fucking incredible. Blood and all. I loved it.

Taylor Swift's performance was nice, she pulled it off, must have been hard performing after Kanye ruined her moment. Loved Green Day's performance although I would've liked them to have started off with "21 Guns" ... it did win Best Rock Video afterall. Um... what else? Oh! Pink's performance was awesome!!! Doing those flips and jumps suspended that high up in the air and singing live doesn't look easy. But again, I would've liked to see her perfrom "Funhouse" instead of "Sober". No complains though, I did love the performance. Finally, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys in the end were terrific.

Yeah, this review is all over the place and now I'm going to talk about the opening act, and oh man, that gave me chills. The dancers were incredible and it was icing on the cake after Janet Jackson came out to sing "Scream" with Michael in the background. Amazing.

I'm probably forgetting some performances. I'll think of them later.

So, about the winners... I'll just say that I thought all the winners deserved their awards. Yeah Green Day, Lady GaGa and Beyonce walked away with three wins each - they were the night's big winners, but I liked that there was a variety of winners and not one specific winner walking away with all the trophies. Congrats to Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift and T.I. for winning Video of the Year, Best New Artist, Female Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year, respectively. Big bummer that Britney Spears wasn't there to pick up her award for Best Pop Video.

So anyway, there's a little summary of what I think. I must add, Pink and Shakira wearing the same dress was pretty hilarious. They both pulled it off nicely so no losers here. Thanks to those who took the time to read this mess of a review hahaha.
